THE ANTISOCIAL NETWORK

Since I got a Facebook account over 3 years ago, I don’t remember exactly when, I continue to get invites from friends, family, former classmates, colleagues and complete strangers on a weekly basis. It’s downright impossible to “ignore” people you know and  to “accept” people you don’t. And it’s been some time now that I’ve been warning people about this “social” and “networking” site which, IMHO, is neither. It is nevertheless one hell of a marketing vehicle, perhaps the best since the invention of TV.

Now comes a new movie called “The Social Network” about the founding of this Internet phenomenon. For those of you that spend a significant amount of time on social networking sites, Facebook, Twitter, etc. for private or professional reasons, it may be worthwhile learning a little more about what exactly you are doing every time you log in. There are no free meals. The movie should be out in Italy mid-November. In the meantime, here are some interesting articles and links, including the official movie trailer (in English).

A very good point. I try not to use fb too much. But it is still a great tool to find long lost friends.

the Facebook's inventor was a genius. Not for use "private" of the social network, but for many uses of advertising that the site may have. In fact Mark Zuckerberg become a millionaire.

Gessica, Zuckerberg is no doubt a genius and now worth into the billions not just millions. And I agree with you that as an advertising tool, it is a phenomenon, perhaps the greatest marketing invention in history. I remain skeptical about its "social" abilities. The fact that Goldman Sachs is now a big investor does not give me much to be optimistic about.

I think that social networks including Facebook are tools to keep in touch people or more people away from own Country. Personally I'm not a big fan of Facebook, while appreciating the work done by Zuckerberg, because I assume that human contact is the basis of everything.
Obvious that some people use this tool to get publicity, in fact, I met the photographer of my wedding through facebook, which he uploaded his work as business card. But now I have deleted my account because it was impossible to keep up consideration of all the messages of friendship that were proposed.

I think that all social networks including Facebook, are a useful invention.
It 's very important to use them intelligently, because they can be a window on the world and should be used with common sense.

Hi!
I don't have an account but I think the social networks aren't only a new kind of communication which links the people in the world, but much more. I think they rapresent the peer production and a new network that produce global knowledge, creativity and a new kind of business.

I think it's not possible to stay outside.
Bye!

Stolen identities, Facebook runs for cover Victims of violations even virtual pages of the official Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and French President Sarkozy. To overcome these risks, the social network introduces new options for protecting users'passwords. You can access to the site using a secure connection with the protocol "https", and you can be activated through a command from the control panel of each member for all duration of the connection to social network. You may notice the use of this protocol is close to the address bar of your browser shows a closed padlock or an inscription in green (depending on the browser). The other option is to be launched social authentication. In the case of a suspected breach of the account, the system may prompt the user for additional verification to confirm his identity. If you are logged in the morning from Italy, the United States in the afternoon and Australia in the evening for example, the original site could activate this safety measure: Facebook will ask you about his friends. By showing photos where their friends are tagged, the user will be selecting their name from a list. But these are just some of devices that Facebook introduced to fill gaps in the system. Nothing is able to protect you than yourself! Hey guys, Take care! Walter

I have a FB account, but I use it only to write e-mail to different people. In my opinion it's better than a classic e-mail like libero, yahoo etc. because you have all the messages from everybody in the same page.
If you look for a specific information you can find in a few minutes.
I also post my holidays photos, because it's usually the best way to show it to my friends.
If it is possible I prefer to meet my friend...but when this is not possible FB is good alternative.
